Hooray for Hollywood

There's nothing beats a movie experience. The high octane thrills of the final house raid in Home Alone; the sublime emotional depth of that moment in Predator where Billy gets his big Bowie knife out; the classic tortured noir romance of American Pie: Band Camp...

Here's Itchy's pick of Cardiff's silver screens:

Chapter Arts Centre
Market Road, Canton
(029) 2031 1050
A unique blend of people mix it up in the bar, theatre, cinema, café and gallery. From has-been old crusties to geeky arts students and local chavs, they all flock to Chapter. For weird Swedish documentaries on crazed, naked farmers, art installations that include live performances of people taking a bath, beer called 'Chi' Ti' on tap and plays about men called Rupert, there's only one place to go, and that's right here.
Box office, Mon–Fri, 11am–8.30pm; Sat, 2pm–8.30pm; Sun, 3pm–8.30pm; café, Mon–Sun, 8.30am–9pm; bar, Mon–Wed, 5pm–11pm, Fri–Sat, 1pm–12am; Sun, 4pm–11pm

Cineworld
Mary Ann Street
(0871) 200 2000
Films – good. Pick 'n' mix – good. Popcorn – good. What more could you ask for in a cinema? Maybe a bar on the top floor enabling alcohol-fuelled disputes about the film you've just seen? Oh, and massive escalators spanning the entire building? Oh, yes, they've got all of that too. Head down on a Tuesday when you can get in to see any film for a very meagre £3.50. Park yourself down in one of the huge comfy armchair-like seats, and sample one of the 15 or so flicks they'll have on offer. Cineworld is quite simply a superior cinema chain. Mon–Sun, 11am–12am
